Panasonic SC-BT205 5 1 Surround Sound reviews, prices and deals: Blu-ray Home Cinema System

The depth, solidity and unadulterated clarity of the picture is a wonder to behold, making good quality Blu-ray transfers like The Dark Knight or Mamma Mia! The features don’t stop there – there’s a range of sound modes to play with and the system is equipped with the superb UniPhier chip, which uses P4HD processing to pull all the picture strings. And because the system’s Blu-ray deck is a fully-fledged Profile 2.0 affair, you’ll also find an Ethernet port on the back that lets you download bonus movie content, as well as view YouTube clips and Google Picasa photos through the Viera Cast web portal. On the downside, you have to load up an SD card to store BD Live downloads as there’s no built-in memory. If you’re repulsed by the sight of cables then you can even install an optional wireless kit (SH-FX70), which sends surround information wirelessly to a receiver at the back of the room, which in turn is connected to the rear speakers.

You may find the answer to your question in the FAQs about the Panasonic SC-BT205 below. Do you have a question about the Panasonic and the answer is not in the manual? Provide a clear and comprehensive description of the problem and your question.

Each speaker comes in three parts and when assembled stands just over a metre high. Build quality is underwhelming – the speakers feel hollow and unsubstantial plus the springclip terminals on the back are fiddly, but from a distance they look attractive enough. Panasonic was one of the first companies to launch an all-in-one Blu-ray home cinema system in the UK with last year’s SC-BT100, a typically feature-rich 3.1-channel bundle with powerful but flawed sound quality and awesome hi-def pictures. Some of these Bavaria professionals work entirely on their own, while others work with subcontractors to get the job done. Please allow additional time if international delivery is subject to customs processing.

The front-mounted flaps feel a little plasticky to the touch but the middle one conceals some exciting stuff, namely an iPod dock and card slot that supports regular SD and SDHC cards. The wall-mountable front/centre speakers and Kelton subwoofer look unremarkable but feel chunky and robustly built. This Home Cinema System allows you to watch 2D Blu-ray Discs in full high definition and can also playback incredible 3D Blu-rays. High sound quality further boosts the enjoyment of high definition movies.

Dolby Atmos is a technology that ensures that the sound is reflected from the ceiling to where you are listening. I have the SC-BT200, as far as I know it's pretty similar to the 205 except for the tall boy speakers. I too had to plumb for an all in one, and I'm very happy with the Pana. It's simple to set up, the menu system is easy to navigate and updating firmware is no problem.

High frequencies in ”The Dark Knight’s” Dolby TrueHD track are clean and crisp, and unlike many all-in-ones it manages to avoid making loud bangs and crashes during the car chase scene sound harsh or uncomfortable. Dialogue is competently handled too, giving Batman’s growly tones the requisite clarity. But almost as impressive is the depth and richness of the picture, which gives the movie’s gloomy visuals the cinematic gravitas they deserve, while the perfectly judged colour balance never lets skin tones look anything other than smooth and natural. The system also walks the Silicon Optix HQV tests – diagonal lines are smooth and free from jaggies, the pan across the stadium on the Film Resolution Loss test is composed and flicker-free, while noise reduction is second to none.

Kelton Subwoofer has an internal structure that is divided into two completely sealed spaces. The drive unit that is mounted to the space in the back causes the air in the front space to vibrate. This causes an Acoustic Filter effect in the front space to absorb unwanted noise while also vibrating the Passive Radiators.

In our eyes the more important business comes in the shape of Blu-ray playback. This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks. High-quality 5.1-channel sound provides robust bass that fills even large listening spaces, and faithful ambience with fine, truly lifelike acoustic nuances. Sound quality is excellent by one-box standards and pictures are blessed with the same ultra-sharp quality that makes Panasonic’s standalone players so special. When you take this fine performance and extensive feature list into account then that price tag seems fairly reasonable – although at this price we would have expected better build quality and support for DivX HD and WMA. There’s no denying the sheer quality of the SC-BT100, which dazzles with a superb feature list, sublime hi-def picture quality and a satisfying sound performance. On the downside, it’s a shame that it’s not a 5.1 system as standard, as having to fork out for extra wireless speakers and the relevant gear is a bit rich given the already high price. Also, the lack of BD Live as found on the DMP-BD50 is a minor disappointment, but these minor gripes aside this is yet another killer proposition from Panasonic.

As for sound, this is one of the best performances we’ve heard from a Panasonic one-box system. It’s able to muster the required grunt for raucous action scenes and shows impressive agility from the front and surround speakers, which results in a fast, exciting listen. You can play AVCHD, SD video and JPEG from SD cards, and disc support is sound – it spins every type of recordable DVD, CD and Blu-ray disc.

This causes an ‘Acoustic Filter’ effect, which absorbs unwanted noise while vibrating the 250mm passive radiators. But if you don’t have the space, cash or permission to add extra channels, then the 3.1 configuration makes a neat and compact way of experiencing the Blu-ray format. Estimated delivery dates - opens in a new window or tab include seller's handling time, origin ZIP Code, destination ZIP Code and time of acceptance and will depend on shipping service selected and receipt of cleared payment. It’s also a dab hand on the sonic front, with the speakers’ bamboo cones blasting out Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio tracks with rare relish. On the whole though, it’s a masterful performance by typical one-box standards.

So it’s with that in mind that we say hello to the SC-BT205, one of Panasonic’s latest all-in-one Blu-ray home cinema systems. It comes with a combined Blu-ray player/receiver unit, which serves up 1000W of audio power as well as decoding Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio, plus you get a set of four tallboy speakers, a centre speaker and a passive Kelton subwoofer. Bamboo Cone Speaker is a rigid, low-density bamboo material used in the front and centre speaker cones helps achieve a clean, responsive sound. Vocals are pure and clear, and dialogue is crisp and easy to understand.

The display panel is a good size and the ring of green light surrounding the volume dial makes it unmissable in the dark. The system delivers virtual 7.1 channel sound dispersed through a wide listening area utilizing Panasonic’s advanced proprietary surround technology. Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD High Resolution and Master Audio virtual 7.1-channel surround sound decoding are among the standard features of the SC-BTX70.
